Grants for domestic solar panels in Ireland are capped at €1,800 in 2026.

This is the first time in years where the maximum SEAI grant value was not reduced by €300.

The chart below shows the maximum grant value, and its downward trend, for solar panels in Ireland from 2023 to 2026.

Continue reading to see the grant value breakdown by system size and year.

Plus, you’ll also get a solar PV grant calculator that’ll help you easily find the grant value applicable to you.

But first, just in case grant values start dropping again next year, here’s how you can lock in the higher 2026 grant value.

2026 Solar Panel Grants – How To Lock In The Higher Value

The maximum grant for solar panels in Ireland, in 2026, is €1,800.

The grant value is lower for solar systems smaller than 4kWp.

There’s an €700 grant per kWp up to a 2kWp system, and an additional €200 for every extra kWp installed up to 4kWp.

While the grant values have stayed the same this year, there’s a longer trend of reducing values.

To lock in the higher 2026 grant values, you must complete and submit your solar PV grant application before January 1st 2027.

Once approved, you and your installer have 8 months to complete the install and submit the declaration of works.

If the 8-month deadline is missed, then the grant will expire and be declined.

You’ll then lose the 2026 grant rate. Any reapplication afterwards will fall under 2027 grant rates, or later, when the planned grant reductions are expected to continue again.

Use the solar panel grant calculator below to see how much the grant value is in 2026 for various solar PV sizes.

Solar Panel Grant Calculator 2026

Solar Panel Grant Value

€0

Estimated grant for 0.0kWp solar system.

Grant Calculation Details:

  • €700 per kWp up to 2kWp (max €1,400).
  • €200 per additional kWp from 2kWp to 4kWp.
  • Maximum SEAI grant is capped at €1,800.
  • Calculated on a pro-rata basis for partial kWp.
  • Commercial solar PV grant values are different.

As mentioned, SEAI grants for solar panels are capped at €1,800 in 2026. There’s a €700 grant per kWp up to 2kWp, and there’s an additional €200 for every additional kWp (up to 4kWp).

This is the same as 2025, which is the first time in years that solar panel grants haven’t dropped.

Grants for Solar Panels 2025

Grants for solar panels in 2025 were capped at €1,800.

Solar installations that were 4kWp or more were eligible for the full grant value. Smaller installations were eligible for lower grant values.

In 2025, there was a €700 grant per kWp up to a 2kWp system. And there was an additional €200 for every additional kWp up to a 4kWp system.

The table below displays the key solar grant values and compares them with the values from previous years.

Solar Panel Grants 2023 to 2026

This table lists the solar panel grants from 2023 to 2025 for various system sizes:

Solar PV system size 2023 solar grants 2024 solar grants 2025 solar grants 2026 solar grants
1kWp €900 €800 €700 €700
2kWp €1,800 €1,600 €1,400 €1,400
3kWp €2,100 €1,850 €1,600 €1,600
4kWp+ €2,400 €2,100 €1,800 €1,800

The SEAI notes: “the grant is paid on a pro rate basis e.g. for a 2.5kWp system the grant value would be €1,500.”

The maximum solar panel grant dropped from €2,400 in 2023, to €2,100 in 2024 and then to €1,800 in 2025 and 2026.

This capped grant value was expected to decrease annually but the drop was paused in 2026.

From 2023 to 2024, there was a grant reduction of €100 per kWp up to 2kWp, dropping from €900 to €800. 2025 saw the same reduction, coming in at €700, which remains in 2026.

In 2024, there was a €50 drop in the grant value for every extra kWp above 2kWp (and below the capped 4kWp grant value), falling from €300 in 2023 to €250 in 2024. There was another €50 drop in 2025 resulting in a grant value of €200, which is the same in 2026.

The grants for the various system sizes are expected to drop every year as planned, with the freeze in 2026 being a nice surprise for many.

To ensure you don’t miss the higher grant values, you must get your relevant grant approval before any scheduled reduction dates.
