Grants for domestic solar panels in Ireland are set to drop from €2,100 to €1,800 in 2025.
This is the second consecutive year where the maximum SEAI grant value reduced by €300.
Continue reading to see the grant value breakdown by system size and year.
But first, here’s how you can lock in the higher 2024 grant value.
The maximum grant for solar panels in Ireland, in 2024, is €2,100.
The grant value is lower for solar systems smaller than 4kWp.
There’s an €800 grant per kWp up to a 2kWp system, and an additional €250 for every extra kWp installed up to 4kWp.
To lock in the higher 2024 grant values, you must complete and submit your solar PV grant application before January 1st 2025.
Once approved, you and your installer have 8 months to complete the install and submit the declaration of works.
If the 8-month deadline is missed, then the grant will expire and be declined.
You’ll then lose the 2024 grant rate. Any reapplication afterwards will fall under the 2025 grant rates, or later.
Grants will drop annually.
Grants for solar panels in 2025 are capped at €1,800.
Solar installations that are 4kWp or more are eligible for the full grant value.
Smaller installations are eligible for lower grant values.
In 2025, there’s a €700 grant per kWp up to a 2kWp system. And there’s an additional €200 for every additional kWp up to a 4kWp system.
The table below displays the key solar grant values and compares them with the values from previous years.
This table lists the solar panel grants from 2023 to 2025 for various system sizes:
Solar PV system size | 2023 solar grants | 2024 solar grants | 2025 solar grants |
1kWp | €900 | €800 | €700 |
2kWp | €1,800 | €1,600 | €1,400 |
3kWp | €2,100 | €1,850 | €1,600 |
4kWp+ | €2,400 | €2,100 | €1,800 |
The SEAI notes: “the grant is paid on a pro rate basis e.g. for a 2.5kWp system the grant value would be €1,500.”
The maximum solar panel grant dropped from €2,400 in 2023, to €2,100 in 2024 and then to €1,800 in 2025.
This capped grant value will continue to decrease annually and is available for systems that are 4kWp and above.
From 2023 to 2024, there was a grant reduction of €100 per kWp up to 2kWp, dropping from €900 to €800. 2025 saw the same reduction, now coming in at €700.
In 2024, there was a €50 drop in the grant value for every extra kWp above 2kWp (and below the capped 4kWp grant value), falling from €300 in 2023 to €250 in 2024. There’s another €50 drop in 2025 resulting in a grant value of €200.
The grants for the various system sizes are expected to drop every year.
To ensure you don’t miss the higher grant values, you must get your relevant grant approval before the scheduled reduction dates.
To find the relevant grant value, you must first know what solar system size best suits you.
