Background

Cyril Treacy lives in a 1950s two-storey semi-detached house in Dublin. A technology professional working from home, Cyril made the decision in 2020 to transform his property into a more energy-efficient, cost-effective home.

Before any improvements, Cyril’s property had a BER (the Republic of Ireland’s equivalent to Energy Performance Certificate, i.e., EPC) rating of E1, typical of many Dublin properties.

The Challenge

Cyril wanted to dramatically reduce his carbon footprint while managing rising energy costs. With two vehicles and working from home, the energy consumption within the 5 occupant household was significant. He faced several key challenges:

Substantial electricity bills.
High diesel costs from running two vehicles (approx. £1,700 every year).
Low home energy efficiency rating.

The Solar Solution

After extensive research, and on the recommendation of a sustainability engineer, Cyril chose to partner with Ohk energy (formerly NRG Panel).

After a comprehensive site assessment, we designed and installed a bespoke 5kWp solar system. More specifically, we installed:

15 high-efficiency 355W solar panels.
Solis inverter.
Myenergi Eddi hot water diverter.

Capability to export excess electricity.

The system includes smart technology that allows Cyril to monitor and control his energy usage through a mobile app.
